Influenced by Heavy, Power and Thrash Metal, Chasing The Serpent is a female fronted metal band driven by bewitching melodies, In-Your-Face guitar riffs and pulverising drum beats.
Formed in late 2015, the band is led by Iván Carranza, who in 2013 moved from Peru to Germany to pursue a career in Music and met his band comrades, Janina Ruopp, Marcel Weining, Nico Sznirmacher and Marco Kampf, at the Institute of Music in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony.
Janina Ruopp – Vocals
Born in 1992 in Rannungen, Bavaria, Germany, Janina began her musical journey at the age of 6, when she took up the flute.
Aside from singing, she has learned several different instruments over the years, including: saxophon, piano and the guitar.
In 2013 she moved to Osnabrueck, Germany to begin studying for a bachelor’s degree in music.
Iván Carranza – Bass
Born in 1993 in Lima, Peru, Iván decided to pick up the bass after hearing the massive low end of an electric bass being played live.
After finishing high school in 2010, he decided to pursue a career in music and studied under the wing of several great musicians from the local scene in Lima.
In 2013 Iván relocated to Germany and is currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Applied Sciences in Osnabrueck.
Nico Sznirmacher – Lead Guitar
Born in 1994 in Berlin, Germany. He started playing the piano at an early age and then switched to the guitar when he turned 14.
After finishing high school in 2013 he started working as a freelance musician in the local scene.
In 2015, he moved to Osnabrueck, where he is studying for a bachelor’s degree in popular music.
Marcel Weining – Rhythm Guitar
Born in 1994 in Haltern, Germany. He started playing the piano at the age of 8 and then switched to guitar when he turned 15.
After finishing high school in 2013, he studied musicology at the University of Muenster. In 2015, he moved to Osnabrueck, where he is studying for a bachelor’s degree in popular music.
Marco Kampf – Drums
Born in 1991 in Bayreuth, Germany, Marco has been playing drums all across Europe with different bands since the age of 16.
After finishing high school, he got a degree as choir and band conductor in Nuremberg, Bavaria.
As of 2013, Marco has been living in Osnabrück, where he works as a freelance drummer, percussionist and teacher, besides studying for a bachelor’s degree in music education.
